Biography:

Anissa is a native Charlottian.  She has been married for 13 years to Robert L. Miller.  She received my undergraduate and masters in Elementary Education from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  Currently she is receiving my Masters in Administration from the University of Scranton.

In the 21st century, she thinks it is imperative to be a more productive educator and citizen in order to positively affect the lives of our youth today. In order to accomplish this feat, as a teacher she has made herself prepared and constantly open to change and new ideas to help prepare the diverse population of students she serves.  She believes teachers should be facilitators, guiding students to be real world problem solvers who build on prior knowledge and invent their own understanding.  Students should acquire operative knowledge instead of figurative knowledge.  We must remember that students never learn anything new in the abstract they only make adjustments to what they learned in the past (Piel, 2001).

She taught at Briarwood Elementary School from 1997 to 2002.  In 2002 she came to Community Charter School.  She has taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades while being at CCS.
